Wihuri International Prize
The Wihuri International Prize is awarded in recognition of furthering the cultural and economic development of mankind. Traditionally, the prize has been awarded to scientists.
The first Wihuri International Prize was awarded in 1958 to mathematician Rolf Nevanlinna, and by 2024, the Wihuri International Prize has been awarded 21 times to scientists around the world.
For the awarding process, a specific field or theme has traditionally been selected, around which an expert committee is formed, consisting of members from scientific associations or organizations. The committee makes recommendations for potential recipients, and the final decision is made by the board of the Wihuri Foundation for International Prizes. In the recent years the prize has been valued at €150,000.
