Wihuri Sibelius Prize
The prestigious Wihuri Sibelius Prize is one of the highest recognitions in the world of classical music. The first Sibelius Prize was awarded to Finnish composer Jean Sibelius whom the prize was named after in 1953.
So far, the Wihuri Foundation for International Prizes has awarded 20 Sibelius Prizes to composers who have achieved international recognition and acclaim.
An Expert Committee consisting of five members of experts from prestigious Finnish music institutions is named for electing the recipient of the Wihuri Sibelius Prize. The decision of the award recipient is made by the board of the Wihuri Foundation for International Prizes based on the proposal of the committee.
The amount of the prize in the recent years has been 150 000 euros.
